Amy Quanbeck

 

Amy grew up in Plymouth, MN where she danced at The Dance Shoppe, a competitive dance studio through high school.  She also took voice lessons and performed in national choirs across the country. While in middle school, Amy landed the role of “Clara” in the RADIO CITY CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR while it sat down in Minneapolis.  She attended many summer intensives including Break the Floor, American Ballet Theater, and Juilliard.  She graduated with excellence from the University of California, Irvine in 2012 with her B.F.A. in Dance Performance, as well as with the pre-requisites to attend physical therapy school.  Just a few weeks after graduating, Amy joined the Broadway National Tour of WICKED.  

Amy performed with Third Rail Projects in THEN SHE FELL, an immersive theatre experience, as the White Queen.  She was with the National Touring Company of DIRTY DANCING as a swing and dance captain, and recently became the assistant choreographer.  She was the assistant dance captain and crossover swing for the WICKED tour.  She made her Broadway debut as was onstage often with CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY and loved dance captaining THE CHER SHOW and covering the Dark Lady dance feature! Next up, she will be at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago with the new Broadway-bound musical THE OUTSIDERS.

She has performed works by many choreographers, including, Donald McKayle, Pavel Zustiak, Jodie Gates, Ohad Naharin, Alex Ketley, Christian Burns, and Yvonne Rainer.  She’s choreographed and taught around the country, and in college she created a program to incorporate dance into arts education in elementary schools in California.  

She is very keen on body care and maintenance for herself and all athletes. Her undergraduate thesis was published in the Journal of Sports Sciences.  Kinematic analysis of hip and knee rotation and other contributors to ballet turnout

Amy currently lives in New York City with her husband Jonathan Shew.  She continues to take on-camera and dance class in her free time, studies voice with Mike Ruckles, Andrea Green and Dan Micciche, practices yoga and pilates, and enjoys spending time in the sun in Central Park.
